Journal Entry for 2/29

Whew! What a week for this blog! We’ve covered a lot this week, from examining our Portfolios, to re-evaluating our own style by comparing it to that of another photographer, and we’ve looked at a photographer who did a multimedia presentation, see the photographer of the day for more details if you haven’t yet.

Here’s where you come in, for today’s journal tell me what things you’d like to see on the blog, and what effects this blog has on your learning for this class.

In addition to the above questions, you are to tell me what sort of multimedia presentation you would do, similar to the ‘bad news’ project.

What’s Due Today: Friday, 2/29

The following assignments are due at the end of class today:

3. Comment on Mr. Strong’s blog on where you are in your Famous Photographer assignment, with your name next to it.

Photographer of the Day: Ian Aleksander Adams

These images are from a series he did, called ‘Bad News’. In a museum he had one picture on each of the four walls of a room, with audio playing, of what I can assume is the ‘bad news’ that these people are hearing. So by playing back the bad news itself and seeing the reaction to this bad news, we are able to experience a dramatic moment in someone life. Perhaps that is one way in which we can be empathetic.

It’s this sort of project that makes me think of doing something similar in this class. A themed assignment of your own choosing, with a stated purpose, more on that later, much later. But for now, enjoy the works of Ian Aleksander Adams.

Sound Off: How are we doing?

Ok, here’s how this will work. I will have been gone for two days now. How are things working out? Leave a comment to this post and tell me who your famous photographer is, and how you’re finding the famous photographer assignment.

Also, in the future, ifyou have a favorite photographer you would like me to showcase as a few of you have already done, leave me a comment, with the URL of the photographer you would like me to showcase.

So respond to this post by using the comment, and I’ll be able to check from Seattle.

Assignment: Famous Photographer

By now you should be familiar with a few places to find a favorite photographer. Your challenge now is to write a one page summary (minimum) of what you feel is the photographer’s style that you are going to emulate, or copy.

You will then provide(in the written portion) as much biographical information as possible, (one additional page) so its like you really know this person.

The third step is to take five pictures in the same style as your famous photographer. Be sure to tell me which aspect of the photographer you are going to copy in the written portion. (at least two paragraphs)

This project is due on Friday of Next Week.

How are you doing on your portfolio?

Periodically its a good idea to go back and look at the pictures you have taken lately. Pick the best ones and upload them to your portfolio.
