Hello, this is Brian Ach the photographer whose work is posted here. Stumbled upon this post, thought I might shed some light.
-The Flag photo was taken with a Canon 5D and a lensbaby 3G lens. The lensbaby is a selective focus lens, sort of like a tilt-shift, but much simpler and cheaper. You can do some cool stuff with it. No photoshop is involved in any of my images.
-The corner market shot was done with the same setup.
-The house at night is a 5D with a 17-40 lens with a 5 second exposure and the camera resting on a chair on the front porch of another house.
-The front row shot is at a fashion show in NYC, those are the Williams sisters (Venus and Serena) and shot with a 70-200 lens during the show with only show lighting around them.
-The airplane shot was done with a 28mm f1.8 on a 5D at an aviation museum in Colorado. I shot the lens wide open (@ F1.8) to get the “blurriness” and shallow depth of field you are commenting about.
-The playground equipment was shot on location in New Orleans after Katrina passed through, with a Canon EF 50mm F1.0 lens I rented and used on a Canon 5D. I stabilized the lens on a fence and shot it at F1.0 (wide open) to get the super-shallow depth of field you see.

Anyway, hope that sheds some light. Nice site you have here. Cool photography. I am based in NYC.

my favorite image is the fifth one, with the flag because I like how the photographer used shutter speed to capture the flag in the wind, but how the flag(not even the whole thing) is in focus and the rest is just a big blurr.

I really like the American flag photo because the focus on it is amazing! I wonder how he got his camera to focus like that. Was the majority in photoshop or did he somehow do it while taking the picture itself? The color of the flag is pretty great too.

Wow thank you so much for telling me how you did it! I’m impressed you don’t use photoshop.

        Thanks again!

I really like the picture of the American flag because it’s a symbol of where I live and it has good color.

My favorite photo is of the person in the airplane or train. its so cool how he could capture that person in that environment and make it stand out with the blurry atmosphere.
