This Week’s Photo Challenge: Attack of the Clones, or Multiplicity

multiplicity by Jamie Philavanh

Photo Challenge Winner from 2007-2008 Jamie Philavanh

We here at Strong Photography like to think that as Photoshop users we are scientists, geneticists, for Photoshop allows us to cheat nature, by doing things like cloning.

This tutorial is a great starting place. You will need a tripod, and need to lock the camera down, so you can reposition your subject, but not the camera. Choose a background where there is plenty of room for your subject to move around in. Also don’t have your subject stand in the same place occupied by where they were before, otherwise you’ll get overlap.

The next step is a little more tricky. You have to cut out all of your clones and put them onto one of the other images. The background, if you did it right, should all look exactly the same, except for a few lighting details, which you can adjust using levels.

Have fun!
