This Week’s Assignment: Flash Fiction

Step One: Choose one of the above photos to write about.  Choose a photo that takes you to another world, one that by just looking at it, you can feel yourself begin to slip into that world.

Step Two: Start with one object to write about. One object in someone’s hand. Where are they? What is happening in the scene? What temperature is the room they are in? Are they in a room? Are they inside or out? What time period is it in?

Step Three: Using this information as a starting point, write a 250-500 word piece of flash fiction. Have characters interacting, have a resolution, change people’s lives, all within the confines of a 250-500 word piece. THE PIECE CAN DEFINITELY BE LONGER.

Your written piece must use ONE of the following objects: A ticket stub from a museum, A dog-eared copy of Catcher in the Rye, a film camera, or a dead fish.

Put in as many sensory details (taste, touch, sound, sight, and smell.) into the piece as possible.

Due into my Drop Box and posted onto your wordpress blog on or before March 10th, 2010.
The best pieces will appear in the Wolfpack Review
